Peebles is a typical Scottish Borders town with a big house nearby (Traquair House). The Chambers Brothers were born in the town. They became famous Edinburgh publishers of which the Chambers dictionary is named.

Chamber’s Institute (Queensberry Lodgings)

The Chamber’s Institute is now the Tweeddale Museum and Gallery an Art Gallery, Museum and Library.

Originally a church building (Deans House) and sold to the Douglas Family  where the 4th Duke of Queensberry was born. The 4th Duke died with reportedly 150 million in his estate in 1810.

Robert Chambers donated the building to the Town circa 1858

The building was renovated by funding from Andrew Carnegie and opened in 1911 as a Library.  Chambers Institute, High Street, Peebles, Scottish Borders EH45 8AP
