Loanhead Midlothian
Loanhead in Midlothian was a small town that grew up around the Bilson Glen coal mining pit. First mentioned on a map in 1599. the main industries being coal mining and a paper mill.

“The True Price of Coal”
The statue of a horse with boy and man beside marks where the Queen Victoria Jubilee fountain in Loanhead once stood. The Sculptor is Alan Beattie Herriot and has his studio at Powderhall Bronze Foundry in Edinburgh. The statue resembles a pit pony with a miner holding the pony with a boy that would have worked down the mine on the horses back.
