Isle of Bute

Circa the Ice age Bute has been inhabited, with many historic sites to see, the scenery alone justifies the journey to the Island.
Rothesay Castle is a must see fought over for hundreds of years by the Norse, The Vikings and Scots part of the Western Isle an area of  immense history
The “Duke of Rothesay” is the official title given to the heir to the British throne, currently Prince Charles. This Island being the favourite of Kings from Robert II when the Stewart dynasty became Kings of Scotland for the next 300 year.  Robert II and his son both loved Bute and spent most of their reign at Rothesay Castle, Robert III, died in the Castle in1406.
There is also a museum worth a visit and you can take a trip on the last sea going paddle steamer in the world.
