Professor George Saintsbury

George Edward Bateman Saintsbury was born in Southampton, in 1845 and lived until his 88th year. He was known as the most influential English literary historian and critic of the early 20th century. He lived in Eton Terrace on the north side of the Dean Bridge for 16 years when he was at Edinburgh University in the Regius chair of rhetoric and English literature
