Dunmore Pineapple Airth Falkirk
Dunmore Pineapple was built in 1761 by Lord Dunmore and is the strangest building in Scotland. Built as a summer house, the first floor is shaped as a Pineapple at the height of 45 feet. The chimneys to the house are the stone vases that stand on the wall to each side of the Pineapple. This house was built with what we would now call air conditioning, as a furnace would circulate hot air through cavities in the wall. The summer House stands within an enormous walled Garden which include many beautiful picturesque views. The Building and Gardens are owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is open to the public.
