Dunbar’s Close Canongate Royal Mile Edinburgh
Dunbar’s Close is were you can see Gardens as they stood in the early 1600s. Dunbar’s Close Gardens named after the owner David Dunbar. In the 1700s the land had tenements on it as the population before the new town was built was in need of every house posible. in 1979 the land was cleared and laid out at it had been in the 1600s. With views to the Calton Hill its a great place to visit on your way down the Canongate.
The Mushroom Trust Plaque reads; Dunbar Close Garden was laid out in the character of an Edinburgh 17th century garden in 1977 when it was donated by The Mushroom Trust of the City of old Edinburgh.
