Doune near Stirling
Doune is a small village with a long history going back as far as the Bronze Age. There is also evidence of a Roman settlement circa 80 AD.
What can be seen is Doune Castle which was built by Robert Stewart circa 1360 however this was not when a castle was first sited here, as no records exist to define the history, it is said a castle stood here in different forms for over 200 years. Robert Stewart became the the Duke of Albany only one of to Dukedoms in Scotland the second being Rothesay. The Duke of Rothesay being his nephew and the king.
