Carlin’s Loup – Witches Leap
Carlops is a small mining village on the A720 in the Scottish Borders. Famous for putting Witches to justice. The Story goes that Witches would be told to jump (loup / leap) of the rock if they flew away they were Witches and when caught would be burned at the steak, however if they didn’t fly away they would die from the fall.
Carlops Church was built in 1861 and was a free church of Scotland the fist minister appointed was in 1862 Rev W Aitken.
